Ching-Yi Lai was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his MS in 2006 and BS in 2004 from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Tsing-Hua University, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in 2013 from the Communication Sciences Institute, Electrical Engineering Department, University of Southern California. From December 2013 to July 2015, Dr. Lai served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Centre for Quantum Software and Information, University of Technology Sydney. Following this, he held a postdoctoral scholar position at the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, from September 2015 to July 2018. Later, he joined the Institute of Communications Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, as an Assistant Professor. In 2022, Dr. Lai was promoted to Associate Professor.
Dr. Lai was awarded the Young Scholar Fellowship (哥倫布計畫) by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2018. In 2021, he received the Excellent Young Research Fellowship (優秀年輕學者) from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan. Notably, he secured a special quantum project from NSTC in 2022. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, Dr. Lai was awarded the 2023 IEEE Information Society Taipei Chapter and IEEE Communications Society Taipei/Tainan Chapter Best Paper Award for Young Scholars. His diverse research interests span quantum coding theory, quantum information theory, fault-tolerant quantum computation, and quantum cryptography.
